Guys,

A journey has began… A journey which started with a dream… A journey to reach to someone whom you admire… A journey which allows you to do your bit for someone who has been an inspiration for more than a decade now… It’s a journey of fantasy and admiration which we had for an aspiring cricketer who couldn’t represent the country but has been the game’s voice since a decade for mortals like us…. It’s a journey which epitomizes the adage “Failure is a detour not a dead-end street”… It’s the journey of our hero, our inspiration Vikrant Gupta – Sports Editor, Aaj Tak.

It was 1^st of March 2003 when India played Pakistan at the Centurion and the great Sachin Tendulkar played one of the greatest ODI innings to register an emphatic win for India. The nation celebrated the win and Tendulkar was once again the torch bearer. It was on this day our commendation for Vikrant emerged and has got stronger with each passing day. The way he analyzed the game, glorified the SRT innings and above all the significance he bought to this Indian win made us realize that this is BIG!!! We realized on that day that in character, in manners, in style; in all things the supreme excellence is simplicity. This has been Vikrant Gupta’s biggest achievement till date that he has been simple with his analysis yet gripping; he has been an icon yet a common man’s delight. Every analysis of his makes us love the game more and makes you realize that these were the questions for which a common man was seeking answers.

Bio:

Vikrant Gupta was born in Amritsar in Punjab and was seven when his family shifted to Chandigarh. He did his schooling from the Christ High School and later, played for the DAV School cricket team too. He led the DAV College and Panjab University team and represented Punjab in Under 19 Cooch Behar Trophy- under the guidance of coach Yograj Singh, incidentally Yuvraj Singh's father. Vikrant dreamt of playing for the country. However, as they say, Man proposed, God disposes, he failed to make it to another level and a dream of being a cricketer came crashing down. As Edward Kennedy once said “The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die”, an aspiring cricketer who couldn’t represent his country set the quest to make a career where he would be paid to discuss what he loved the most, i.e. CRICKET.

After graduating from Punjab University in Mass Communication, he started his career with The Indian Express as a Special Correspondent under the astute guidance of Mr. Shekhar Gupta. This gave him an opportunity to understand the game as an observer and put this across to everyone who loved the game. After a successful stint with The Indian Express for more than 5 years, he joined TV Today group in Jan 2003 and ever since he has been the voice of cricket for all of us. As a Sports Editor, his biggest achievement has been to be a common man’s voice and this uncanny knack of his has made him a youth icon for all of us.

Yes, a new journey for all of us has began where we look to share all the updates, news and snippets about Vikrant Gupta, we would like to thank the man himself for allowing us to put up this blog and contributing his inputs to make this blog a grand success.
